Fused and Light is a working glass fusing studio based in the Highland village of Newtonmore in the Cairngorms National Park. We also exhibit landscape paintings, photographs and crafts by other artists, many of them based locally.
Why not combine a visit with a half day at the Highland Folk Museum (1 mile away) or the Highland Wildlife Park (6 miles away)?
It is run by Anne Bridgen. Anne started glass fusing at Portstewart in Northern Ireland, shortly after completing an art foundation course, UUCertHE in Fine and Applied Art, in 2007. On moving to the Cairngorms National Park in 2010 she found no local glass kiln so bought her own and started selling her work commercially from then. Her work is now to be found in a range of local venues including the Loch an Eilein Gallery Rothiemurchus, the Inchmore Gallery, the Aviemore Steam Railway Station and the Highland Wildlife Park.
Anne is a scientist (virologist) by training and finds that glass fusing satisfies her creative urges while also requiring a scientific approach to experimenting with firing programmes. She loves colour and her work is bright and colourful, rather than subtle! It encompasses jewellery, coasters, landscapes, bowls and wall hangings, and she also welcomes commissions. The studio is stocked with Bullseye glass and Anne has a comprehensive selection of glass, frit, stringers as well as firable metals and papers with which you can design wonderful pieces.
Glass fusing is a brilliant technique as really nice effects can be obtained with very little experience. For the drop in coaster sessions I have cut the glass already so all visitors need to do is to decorate it! There are photos up of previous work to give you ideas. I will be delighted to share this wonderful medium with you, whether you wish to experiment yourself or just look and admire.
