THE second of six Highland Story Maps is now on display in Gairloch Heritage Museum until Saturday, June 14.
The original is a large map – about the size of a domestic house door, and printed on canvas.
The images on the map were inspired by legends and personal memories from the Gairloch area in Wester Ross – including tales of white stags, hidden treasure, an iconic hotel, the Gaelic Bard of Tournaig, and an American bomber that crashed near the Fairy Lochans in 1945.
The Highland Story Maps are a unique feature of Needed On A Journey, a touring exhibition which celebrates the 2014 Year of Homecoming.
They are the brainchild of storyteller Bob Pegg and have been created digitally by artist John Hodkinson, working with members of individual communities who have generously given stories, reminiscences, songs, photographs and documents to the project.
The first story map was shown in Inverness Museum in April.
Museums in Strathpeffer, Dornoch, Newtonmore and Grantown will host maps later in 2014.
