Five actresses who hid their baby bumps during filming

Divergent - not pictured: bun in the oven.

Have you seen Divergent yet? It's got what you would expect from a Young Adult novel adaptation – a young woman's fight against a dictatorship, romance, hokey sci-fi, and big hunky blokes taking their shirts off to reveal rock hard abs. And Kate Winslet, who manages to look stern and stoic despite being five months pregnant throughout the filming. If that were us, we'd be furious. But oh well. Here's five other actresses who had to hide baby-bumps during filming, because why not?

:: Panic Room (2002) - Jodie Foster was expecting second son Kit during filming on this crime thriller, so big coats and a large handbag were required. "I did a lot of sleeping and sometimes I would sleep in-between set-ups," she later admitted.

:: Vanity Fair (2004) - Pregnant with her second child, Reese Witherspoon made the most of her character Becky Sharp's empire line dresses in this adaptation of Thackeray's classic novel.

:: Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street (2007) - Helena Bonham Carter struggled with motion and morning sickness while making this musical movie, directed by her long-term partner Tim Burton. She later gave birth to a daughter, Nell.

:: Eastern Promises (2007) - Naomi Watts discovered she was pregnant two weeks into playing a midwife in this crime thriller. Keeping schtum was difficult, she later admitted: "You like to keep it a secret, so I was tired and not feeling well and not getting enough sympathy either."

:: Jack Reacher (2012) - Rosamund Pike was five months pregnant with son Solo when she played a lawyer in this high-octane Tom Cruise action film. She later joked: "It's amazing the baby's come out so chilled. He probably thought the world was going to be truly terrifying."

Divergent is on at cinemas across the Highlands just now. Check out our event listings for showings in your area!
