Release: July 31st
Starring: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana (did we also mention that Karen Gillan's in it?)
Synopsis: This film expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits-Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand-with the galaxy's fate in the balance.
Why You Should See It: Karen Gillan's sadistic and evil (typical Invernesians, am I right?)! Vin Diesel's a tree-man! WWE's Batista chews some scenery! There's three reasons alone!
Alright, there's more to this. This is probably the most overtly comical of the Marvel Universe films – a series already not exactly famed for its dark serious approach to cinema. It's an interesting ensemble too, with Chris Pratt in particular one to watch – his work in Parks And Recreation (as well as the voice work he did for The Lego Movie) shows that he's got both the comedic and acting chops for this.
Plus, most importantly of all, Vin. Diesel. Is. A. Dryad.
