Release: 22nd May
Starring: Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy
Synopsis: The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The characters from the original X-Men film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from X-Men: First Class in an epic battle that must change the past - to save our future. The X-Men send Wolverine to the past in a desperate effort to change history and prevent an event that results in doom for both humans and mutants.
Why You Should See It: The first two X-Men films were absolutely brilliant, perfect allegories for the two camps of fighting against intolerance. Two charismatic leaders, with vastly opposing ideologies on how to ensure acceptance of mutants in society, always proves fruitful grounds for drama. While the later ones tailed off, this one looks like a triumphant return to form.
Appropriately enough, this coincides with the return of Bryan Singer at the helm – he hasn't had a hand in the X-Men films since the second one. Coincidence? I think not. This looks like it could stand among the best of the films – a summer blockbuster with explosions and ideas in equal measure.
