PAUL Oakenfold will come to the Ironworks on Friday, October 6 - tickets now on sale from the venue.
The thrice Grammy nominated trance DJ - the son of a musician - began DJing in the late '70s spinning funk in Covent Garden before a life-changing visit to New York in 1984 where he spent a few months working as A&R man for Champion Records signing DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, as well as Salt n Pepa.
He also became promoter and British agent for the Beastie Boys and Run DMC.
But it was on his first trip to Ibiza in 1987 that he discovered the Balearic sound and Paul took the music and his experiences back to the UK and became its ambassador, as well as returning to the island for residencies at Amnesia and Pacha.
In London, the Ministry Of Sound opened with Paul as their first resident, but it was his residency at UK superclub Cream in Liverpool that brought Paul a global profile and the start of a reputation as a "touring legend".
That residency was celebrated with the Grammy-nominated 2004 compilation Creamfields and Paul went on to receive a second Grammy nomination in 2007 with his artist album A Lively Mind and then again in 2009 for his production work with Madonna.
More career highlights include three worldwide tours warming up for Madonna and U2 - both artists insisting on a DJ set from Paul instead of a support band - performing on the Great Wall of China and two sold out dates playing to 30,000 people at the Hollywood Bowl in California.
In 1988, his Perfecto record label played an integral role in the birth of trance music. He has remixed Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones and Justin Timberlake and released over 20 DJ mix compilations. He has produced artists including Madonna, U2 and the Happy Mondays and has also been responsible for film scores and cues for Hollywood blockbusters including The Bourne Identity, Shrek 2 and Collateral.
