EDEN Court will be flowing with cash as two actors share the stage with £10,000 in real £1 coins for Money: The Game Show.
Written and directed by Edinburgh playwright Clare Duffy, Money: The Game Show is a playful and interactive journey through the madness of the financial system,
Casino (Stuart Ryan) and Queenie (Suzanne Robertson) used to be hedge fund managers — before the financial crisis of 2008, that is. Now they have turned to performance art to share their stories of how to make (and lose) billions from economic downturn.
Playing with real cash, the audience is invited to bet long, short and hedge, as hosts Casino and Queenie challenge them to play a series of high stake games that demonstrate how the world’s economic system came to the brink of collapse.
The show was first developed as part of the 2011 Platform 18 award for new directors supported by The Arches, Traverse Theatre and National Theatre of Scotland.
Duffy was given a commission of £6000 to create an early version of Money — which she put on stage in pound coins during shows in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The piece has been further developed, with the final version, produced by Unlimited Theatre and the Bush Theatre, premiering in London in February 2013.
Money: The Game Show now returns to Scotland in its full version for a national tour with a brand new cast.
Alongside the tour, Unlimited Theatre is running a scheme called "Your Pound on Stage", which invites each audience member to invest a £1 share in the production, and see their pound replace one of the 10,000 coins on stage.
At the end of the tour, all "shareholders" will take part in an online vote to decide what to do with the total invested funds.
Money: The Game Show is at the OneTouch Theatre, Eden Court, Bishops Road, Inverness, on Wednesday 18th June at 7.30pm.
