STARLIGHT Musical Theatre are again calling for readers help them search for a new star of the stage.
Only this time the Inverness company is looking for one with four legs.
Last year Starlight’s "Search for Maria" proved a success, resulting in Matilda Walker from Fortrose, auditioning and ultimately securing the demanding lead role of Maria in the musical West Side Story.
This year, the company is asking reads to help them find baddy Bill Sykes’s companion for 2015 show Oliver!, Lionel Bart’s musical version of Charles Dickens’s Oliver Twist.
"His stage name is Bulls Eye and he really has quite an important role to play," Starlight producer Donnie Matheson explained.
"Ideally we are looking for a Staffordshire Bull Terrier or similar breed — not necessarily pure-bred."
Fellow producer Peter Kelly revealed that an offer of a potential doggy star had been made, but had been rejected because the breed was wrong.
"We would need a dog who is well-behaved and friendly, so we hope we can come up with the goods in plenty of time before the start of rehearsals," Kelly added.
However, the producers are not confining their talent search to the non-human element of the cast.
"We are auditioning for all parts, including children, at the end of January and the beginning of February and anyone interested in taking part in the show should go to the Starlight Musical Theatre web page and complete an audition form," Matheson said.
"They will then be contacted with all the required audition details and rehearsal material."
The show will again be directed by Roma MacAskill, who directed West Side Story, with Nicola Gray in charge of the choreography.
The musical director will be Fiona Stuart.
"This year. we will be having understudies for both Oliver and the Artful Dodger," Kelly said.
"The understudies will be rewarded with performing their parts on the Saturday matinee. This will ensure that they are up to performance standard in case they are called upon to take over any other performances during the week."
Anyone who feels that they have a dog who might fit the role of Bulls Eye, or wants to audition for a part themselves should apply on the Starlight web page at http://www.starlightmusicaltheatre.com or email email@example.com as soon as possible.
