Celebrating four years of stand up showcases in Inverness, the Comedy Bothy has decided it’s time for a change.
The Mad Hatters-based comedy brand is set to join forces with the city’s other purveyors of punchlines – the Teuchters Comedy Club – for all future events, starting with this Friday’s event.
The Comedy Bothy promoter and compere Kieran Lochore explained: “In the four years that the Comedy Bothy has been active there have been a few different changes in the organisation, with myself being the one constant.
“I have always been a very big advocate for finding and growing local talent, and the Bothy has served as a good vehicle to do this. But now, through partnership with the Teuchters Comedy Club we are able to offer even more local talent and great special guests than ever before.
“Since I joined up with Halde and Teuchters I have seen our humble little scene go from strength to strength. Halde’s passion, commitment and penchant for out-the-box thinking has been exactly what this town needed to kick the Highland comedy scene into high gear.”
Teuchter’s chief Halde Pottinger added: “I’ve been a supporter of the Bothy from the start, so I was really pleased when I was able to make my debut there. I have seen quite a lot of the shows over the years, some great, and some a wee bit rickety.
“But one positive was Kieran, who was always there to do the best he could to provide a good show. After I formed Teuchters Comedy we started working together on a lot of projects and became good friends.
“So it was a no-brainer that when Kieran took over the Bothy we would collaborate and get a really good show up and running. No formal agreement, no handshake. It just happened.”
The weekend’s line-up includes comedy talent from the Highlands – Halde, Zander McNally, Mike Hendry, Jenny Johnstone and Ryan Jensen – alongside regular compere Kieran.
And headlining the event will be Irish comedian Michael Redmond. Best known for his role as the almost-supernaturally boring Father Stone in Father Ted, Michael has also appeared in hit comedy shows including Brass Eye and Stewart Lee’s Comedy Vehicle.
Entry is free, and the event begins at 8pm. For more information, see The Comedy Bothy's Facebook.
