THE unlikely friendship between Scottish poet, communist and nationalist Hugh MacDiarmid and Mary Poppins’ creator Pamela Travers will be the subject of a talk next week.

Inverness writer Jennifer Morag Henderson is best-known for her biography of the city’s late crime author Elizabeth MacKintosh, better-known as Josephine Tey.

And while researching that book, Jennifer discovered McDiarmid and Travers had come across each other through a mutual friend and their journalism two years before Mary Poppins was created.

Jennifer’s talk – part of the current WEA (Workers’ Adult Education) series – will be at 12.30pm in Inverness Library on Thursday, March 30 and is free and open to the public.
