Six of the north of Scotland’s up-and-coming metal bands are set to duke it out for a chance to play one of the genre’s biggest festivals.
Metal 2 the Masses comes to Mad Hatters in Inverness on Saturday(, MAY 20) for the second year running.
The showcase offers competing acts the chance to break big in the metal industry – with a coveted slot at Bloodstock Open Air festival up for grabs.
And, after Seed of Sorrow won last year’s inaugural Highland gig, six more bands from across the region will vie to win the evening’s battle, and enjoy the opportunities that it offers: Stornoway hard rockers The Broken Ravens; Inverness "dirty hard rockers" Devil’s Queen; Orkney grunge-tinged groove metal band Electric Mother; Aberdeen prog metal group Orynthia; new Inverness hard metal band Slioch; and Elgin-based prog rockers Solar Sons.
Whichever act manages to scoop the win on the night is set for a boost to their fledgling career.
In addition to a 30 minute performance slot on the Hobgoblin Newblood Stage at Bloodstock (and full access passes for the winning band), they’ll also receive full media opportunities – with access to r
eporters for interviews, reviews and photographs.
As well as this, the band will get the chance to open the Sophie Lancaster Stage the following year – the only stage open on the festival’s opening night – and the possibility of playing at Slovenian metal festival Metaldays.
Bloodstock Open Air festival is one of Britain’s biggest metal festivals. Starting in 2001 as a one-day, two-stage indoor event in Derby Assembly Rooms, it has grown into a full weekend-long festival, with four days and four stages.
Over the years, some of the biggest bands the genre has to offer has headlined or played it – including the last ever UK tour date of heavy metal legends Twisted Sister.
This year’s main stage headliners are melodic death metal band Amon Amarth, doom metallers Ghost, and thrash metal icons Megadeth.
Bloodstock: Metal 2 the Masses takes place at Mad Hatters on Saturday. Doors open at 7pm, and entry is free. For more information: https://www.facebook.com/events/426429521044258/
