EDEN Court has announced a full cast-list for family pantomime Aladdin – and there’s a mix of old faces and new. Alongside Greg Powrie as Widow Twankey and Ross Allan as Wishee Washee, both of whom appeared in Sleeping Beauty last year, is Inverness panto newcomer and local boy David Rankine as Aladdin.
Some other new faces are Dani Heron as the Princess and Rebecca Maltman as her hand-maiden So-Shi.
Derek McGhie – who last appeared at the venue as Demon King in Mother Goose – returns as the baddie, evil Abanazar.
Connor McAllister – who back in 2009 played Fleshcreep in Jack And The Beanstalk – will be the Genie Of The Lamp. Claire Darcy, who has been part of the ensemble for the last two years, takes on her first principal role in pantomime as Spirit Of The Ring.
Connor McAllister says: "I am delighted to back at Eden Court and very excited to be playing the Genie.
"I love having the power to make wishes come true – I may have to try granting a few of my own! It will be great to be back home in Scotland for Christmas as well as I have spent a lot of this year working abroad away from my family and friends.
"I don’t know why I’m always the baddie, says Derek McGhie with a grin.
"I’m a lovely person – honestly! I’m only joking, baddies are great fun to play as you get to behave in a way you could never get away with in real life!
Also in the cast are: Emily Taylor, Chiara Brooke, James Carder, Jordan Emerson, Luke Musson and Jamie Sidhom.
Steve Boden, managing drector of Imagine Theatre who produce the pantomime says: "As it is only July we are really pleased to have all of our cast in place for Aladdin. We started working on our casting back in March, so it is quite a long process and Aladdin is the first one of our 10 pantomimes throughout the UK to be fully cast, including the ensemble.
"People find it odd that we are hard at work on panto in the middle of the summer, but so much happens this time of year, such as our casting, our children’s auditions, photoshoots and production meetings amongst other things – however, we do take time out for the odd ice-cream!"
And on Sunday (Aug 24) the junior chorus auditions for Aladdin are being held –suitable for boys and girls from nine to 16.
The audition will be in two parts:
In the morning, all children will be auditioned. Those who are successful in the morning will be asked to return for a recall in the afternoon. Those children who are unsuccessful will be allowed to go home
Those then recalled for the afternoon auditions, will be kept until the final decisions on the pantomime casting are made later in the afternoon.
