Adopt-A-Child UK

Adopt-A-Child UK, based in Culloden, Inverness, is a Christian one-to-one sponsorship programme working hand-in-hand with sponsors across the world to provide nutritious meals, basic medical and dental care, pastoral and practical care, a spiritual hope and a future for thousands of under-privileged children in Guatemala and Albania.

We currently have ten programmes in Guatemala – seven in the mountain region of Quiche, two beside the old capital, Antigua, and one in the slum area of Guatemala City.

In Albania we have four programmes in the mountains in the south west of the country, near the Macedonian border, and outreach into four more remote villages where we distribute monthly food parcels.

As well as providing food twice a week for the children, our centres are very much part of the community, providing employment for local people who cook the food, transport it to the programmes and look after the centres etc. Churches and Bible study groups are also run weekly for both children and adults if they wish to attend, and regular youth meetings give teenagers a safe place to meet together.

As well as the income from sponsorship, we also raise extra money through our charity shops – one in Northern Ireland and our pop-up shop once a month at the Barn Church in Culloden. This income supports extra projects, for example providing more specialist medical help where needed, a special Christmas meal and gift for every child each year, plus the upkeep of vehicles and buildings.

Together we are "Changing the World... One Child at a Time"
