Look out for our Benny Lynch Story competition in Seven Days

By Margaret Chrystall

THE story of Scotland’s first boxing champion comes to Eden Court on Thursday, June 6 and in this week's Seven Days entertainment and lifestyle supplement inside Inverness Courier, Ross-shire Journal, John O'Groat Journal, Northern Times, Strathspey Herald and Northern Scot we have a great prize to win.

Look out inside Seven Days for our competition with a pair of tickets to win to see the show plus the chance to enjoy a meet and greet the cast afterwards.

In The Benny Lynch Story actor Stephen Purdon – best-known as River City’s Shellsuit Bob – takes the lead role.

From Benny’s childhood in the Gorbals’ slums to his boxing success and global stardom, the story also takes the audience on the poignant journey to the star’s untimely death in 1946 at the age of just 33.

The ultimate rags to riches to rags tale the play follows the extraordinary life of a Scottish icon – and the team behind the play say it doesn’t matter if you’re not a boxing fan.

David Hayman plays Benny’s coach and mentor Sammy Wilson, Holly Jack (River City, Burnistoun, Waterloo Road) plays Benny’s wife and Simon Weir (High Road, River City, Taggart, Acid House, Trainspotting 2) plays Tash the Gorbals’ sage.
