Under Canvas returns to Eden Court with a summer full of entertainment

1 Under Canvas, the marquee hosting live music on Eden Court lawn, is returning with a summer of musical guests announced.

As well as the special guests, there will be secret artist sessions, a Belladrum Takeover on Saturday, July 13 – featuring some of the festival’s artists – and every Friday will be Fringe Fridays resident DJ Karawane joined by upcoming talent.

There will also be a chance for local musicians to join in at the Saturday Sessions. Also, Saturday Ceilidhs will happen every week from 8pm (except the Saturday of Belladrum Take-over).

Tain Gala from 2017.

2 Tain Gala is an action-packed few days that start on Tuesday, July 2 at 6.15pm with the fancy dress family parade on Manse Street and continues through the week until the End of Gala Dance on Saturday, June 6 at 8.30pm, with entertainment from The Impact and Wood & Stone.

Between those days, catch the crowning ceremony of the Gala Queen (Tuesday, July 2) and, later that night, the variety concert (7.45pm) featuring Gizzen Briggs, Craighill Choir, Knockbreck School Scottish Country Dancers, Leona Afrin and Niamh Mercer, Caitlin Jupp and Ruairidh Mackay and To The Point Dancers.

On Wednesday, there is afternoon tea and dancing with Ronnie Ross (2pm), while the 10k road race and 5k fun race set off from the marquee at 7pm.

Thursday evening brings Funbox (pictured), Circus Skills with Circus Alba, Boogie Bounce Kidz and the all new pet show which starts at 6.30pm.

On Saturday, 1pm brings the New Big Wheels, Little Wheels Fancy Dress with floats, vans, trailers, walkers, all welcome to join the parade to the Links, led by massed pipes and drums, through the High Street for an afternoon of centre ring entertainment and family fun.

3 Eden Court Community cast tackles Dylan Thomas’s play Under Milk Wood on Sunday, June 30 at 7.30pm. Directed by Steph Smart, this amateur production is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French Ltd. Tickets from £7.50 to £11. Details: www.eden-court.co.uk

4 GLASGOW folk-fusion band Eriska are playing the Ceilidh Place, Ullapool, on Tuesday, July 2 and the Drouthy Cobbler, Elgin, on Thursday, July 4. More info: www.eriska.net

5 OHIO-BORN pianist Catherine Nardiello is making her first visit to the Macphail Centre, Ullapool, on Monday, July 1 at 7.30pm, when she will be performing opera arrangements, pieces for children, well-known classics and more.

6 PIPING Inverness – the European Pipe Band Championships – comes to Bught Park, Inverness, on Saturday, June 29.

It is expected that around 4000 pipers and drummers will attract 20,000 people to the arena to see the action.

7 CONNECT presents Ben Sims, special guest at Elgin Town Hall, on Saturday, June 29, doors open 9.30pm. Connect and ETH For The Community present this event as a fundraiser. Ticket info: www.elgintownhall.co.uk
