By Margaret Chrystall

Every week What's On North offers up seven top picks from across the north of Scotland for your entertainment to ponder. This week (Friday, April 19 to Thursday, April 25) features musical theatre, a hip-hop/funk act, two Blazin’ fiddles members as a duo for the first time, funk, trad and the sounds of the 60s ...

1 The Addams Family is on at Elgin Town Hall, being staged by the St Giles Theatre Group from Wednesday to Saturday, April 24-27, at 7.30pm.

With music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and the book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, The Addams Family is a musical comedy based upon the characters created by Charles Addams in his single-panel gag cartoons, which depict a ghoulish American family with an affinity for all things macabre.

Although numerous film and television adaptations exist, the musical is the first stageshow based on the characters. For tickets go to: www.elgintownhall.co.uk

4 Edinburgh funksters James Brown Is Annie return to Mad Hatters, Inverness, on Saturday, April 20.

They last stopped off at the venue last October and will no doubt be playing tracks from their latest album JBIA II (available from www.jbia.co.uk).

The band – featuring Caithness’s own Barry Gordon – have released in the last week their new video for All The Love, which is an original song produced by Hamish Stuart (Average White Band, Paul McCartney Band, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Quincy Jones) and recorded at Chamber Studio, Edinburgh.

For anyone who hasn’t heard their sound, you can get in the mood by heading to their bandcamp page: www.jbia.bandcamp.com
